He and Williams have been working together for more than 50 years, their first collaboration being 1974’s Sugarland Express, Spielberg’s feature directing debut. Williams, 93, wrote the iconic music for classics including Jaws, Close Encounters of the Third Kind, Raiders of the Lost Ark, E.T., Empire of the Sun, Hook, Jurassic Park, Schindler’s List and much more. (Not to mention, his non-Spielberg credits include the theme from Star Wars and a few other familiar ditties.)
“John is much more of a chameleon as a composer,” Spielberg told the Los Angeles Times in 2012, reflecting on their decades working together.” “He reinvents himself with every picture.”
The small EGOT club, meanwhile, includes Rita Moreno, Viola Davis, Jennifer Hudson, Whoopi Goldberg, Audrey Hepburn and The Book of Mormon composer Robert Lopez, who, incidentally, is the only person to win each kind of award that makes up an EGOT twice.
