Nostalgia Wins: Remakes And Remasters Reached 138 Million Downloads In 2025



It’s no secret that video game remakes and remasters continue to be popular, but just how many were downloaded in 2025? According to new research by Sensor Tower, a staggering number of people chose to revisit old games that had been given an upgrade, as the analytics firm says that there were 138 million downloads of remakes and remasters across the globe.

That number was split, with 60 million downloads being for remakes and 78 million downloads of remasters being recorded. Focusing purely on remakes, Delta Force did particularly well with 14.5 million downloads for the free-to-play shooter alone, and Ark: Survival Ascended came in second place with 4.35 million downloads.   • Resident Evil 2 — 1.73 million downloads
  • Pac-Man World; Re-Pac — 1.52 million downloads
  • Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater — 1.39 million downloads

So how did remasters do in comparison? Unsurprisingly, Grand Theft Auto V: Enhanced was at the top of the list with 13.1 million downloads, followed by The Elder Scrolls Online 4: Oblivion Remastered and Need for Speed: Hot Pursuit Remastered. Another notable game on the list was Gears of War: Reloaded, which had a multiplatform launch on PC, Xbox Series X|S, and PS5.
