Nioh 3 is, unsurprisingly, the fastest-selling game in the series with over a million units sold

Even before the game came out, it was pretty easy to guess that Nioh 3 would be a hit. From the word of mouth leading up to launch, to the well-received free demo, there was little chance the action RPG wasn’t going to be a major deal.

Today, publisher Koei Tecmo has announced that the game has officially passed over one million copies sold worldwide across PC, and PlayStation 5. This makes it the fastest in the Nioh franchise to reach this milestone.

As a result of this fantastic launch, Nioh 3 has now pushed overall Nioh franchise sales to be over 10 million, which includes the original Nioh as well as Nioh 2. Today’s news comes just two weeks after the game arrived on PC, and PS5.

On Steam, where it’s available on PC, it shot up the Steam charts, and immediately broke the series’ previous best peak concurrent player count record. From there, the numbers kept growing, leading up to a stellar weekend where it peaked at 88,045 concurrent players on Steam, double that of its launch day.

This now stands as the largest for any Nioh game on Steam, and though we don’t have insight into how well it’s doing on PS5 specifically, it still shows that the Nioh series continues to grow.

Nioh 3 builds on everything the two prior games established, and pushes the series into the semi-open-world realm, with several larger maps that each cover a period of time in Japan’s history. In our Nioh 3 review we called it “Team Ninja’s most accomplished action game, and the series’ most accessible.”
