The Louvre Museum re-opened three days after a daring daytime heist of eight pieces of France’s crown jewels — valued at $102 million — as officials scrambled to make arrests. The museum’s director told the French Senate culture committee a shortage of security cameras and other weaknesses led to a “terrible failure.”
