Up-and-coming French actor Eye Haïdara has been tapped to host the opening and closing ceremonies at the 79th edition of the Cannes Film Festival.
The news was unveiled by Cannes’ media partners, French broadcaster France Televisions and digital outlet Brut which will be delivering expanding coverage of the festival across linear and online platforms during the next edition, set to run May 12-23.
Haïdara broke out in Eric Toledano and Olivier Nakache’s smash hit “C’est la vie!” (“Le Sens de la fête”) which earned her nominations for both the Lumières Award and the César for most promising actress.
In recent years, Haïdara starred in films such as Julien Rambaldi’s “Les Femmes du square,” Sylvie Gautier’s “Brillantes,” and “Mr. Mayor” by Karine Blanc and Michel Tavares. Haïdara also had the lead role in Joachim Lafosse’s “Six Days in Spring” which came out last year, and stars in Mélissa Godet’s “La Maison des femmes” which is currently playing in French theaters. She will next be seen in Rachel Lang’s “Mata” and Agnès Jaoui’s “L’Objet du délit,” both of which could world premiere at Cannes.
Curated by Thierry Fremaux, Cannes lineup will be unveiled on April 9 in Paris. As previously announced, the festival will pay tribute to Barbra Streisand and Peter Jackson who will each receive an honorary Palme d’Or. The jury will be presided over by celebrated South Korean director, screenwriter and producer Park Chan-wook, who will succeed Juliette Binoche.
