Champions shocked by late Molineux winner

Wolves picked up a second shock win in a week as a stoppage-time goal sunk Liverpool at Molineux.

The champions were dominant throughout but could not find a killer touch and were punished by a fine finish from Rodrigo Gomes with 12 minutes remaining.

Mohamed Salah then pounced on a defensive error to score his first Premier League goal of 2026 and seemingly keep the Reds in the hunt for a top-four finish.

But there was still time for Andre to hit a shot that deflected past Allison in slow motion.

Rob Edwards’ side have been dead men walking for months but after beating Aston Villa on Friday night are now within three points of Burnley.

They are still 11 points from safety but are at least putting up a fight.

Wolves appear to have completely shaken their fear of playing in front of their home fans following their late draw with Arsenal and victory over Villa.

Thsoe fans stood in unison with the away end to pay tribute to the late Diogo Jota in a poignant opening period that saw Wolves frustrate Liverpool and limit them to half-chances.

Liverpool were repeatedly forced into speculative efforts from distance though they somehow failed to capitalize when substitute Curtis Jones chested Hugo Ekitike’s far-post flick onto the crossbar from point-blank range. Salah then blazed over from outside the box as the frustration mounted.

Against the run of play, Wolves stunned Anfield with 12 minutes remaining. Tolu Arokodare outmuscled Virgil van Dijk from a hopeful long ball and slipped in Gomes, who expertly dinked over the advancing Alisson.

Liverpool’s response was immediate. Substitute Rio Ngumoha thought he’d leveled but Sa brilliantly tipped his effort onto the post. The equaliser finally arrived when Salah pounced on Jean-Ricner Bellegarde’s wayward pass, ending his goal drought with a clinical finish.

The visitors pushed for a winner but were caught cold in stoppage time. Alisson’s clearance went straight to Yerson Mosquera, who released Andre. His strike deflected cruelly off Joe Gomez and beyond the stranded goalkeeper to seal an unlikely victory.
