The funniest fighting game patch note of all time will read some variation of “we altered the incest storyline in Alex’s backstory.” At least, that’s what it sounds like Street Fighter 6 is doing.
Alex, a veteran fighter in Capcom’s fighting game series, was added to Street Fighter 6 earlier this month, and while that on its own should be cause for celebration, fans were less enthused by the character’s storyline, which included him getting with his second cousin and step-sister Patricia. They even have a kid on the way. The fandom was sent into a tailspin trying to figure out how to explain this as less weird than it comes off, as even if you debate the legitimacy of the brother/sister relationship, they are definitely still cousins.
Well, whatever Capcom thought internally, the company has released a statement saying it will be revising some of the in-game text that may have been “misleading.” Director Takayuki Nakayama posted on X that this will not be a complete change of the characters’ backstories, however. I mean, the details of the story are pretty cut and dry, so…I’m not really sure how they plan to salvage this?
We apologize for any confusion that recent topics regarding Alex’s story may have caused.
While we have not changed the characters’ backstories, after internal review by the development team, we plan to revise certain text passages that may have been misleading in the near future.…— TAKA-nakayama (@takaNakayama) March 26, 2026
Alongside the announcement, Capcom released a short story called “A Toast Between Fathers,” which features Tom, who is Patricia’s father and Alex’s…first cousin once removed/adoptive father/father-in-law thinking about the newlywed couple growing up together. I’m not really sure what this is supposed to accomplish because it just reminds me that they grew up as siblings. I’d normally say “what are we doing here, Capcom?” but I want no part in this.
We’ll see how Capcom alters Alex’s story in a future update.
