Former Bayern Munich captain Lothar Matthaus is confident Harry Kane will remain at the club beyond the end of the season despite interest from Barcelona.
Kane’s current deal at the Allianz Arena expires in the summer and he has been linked with Barca as they look to replace Robert Lewandowski, who is set to leave the Liga leaders.
The England international was even name-checked by Barca presidential candidate Xavi Vilajoana last week. Vilajoana, who is standing against Joan Laporta, as well as entrepreneur Victor Font and local businessman Marc Ciria, said: “We have made contact with Kane’s camp. We have to work with prudence and professionalism. We study profiles, and Kane is one of them. He is a goalscorer, a team player and a ‘killer’ in the tight spaces that Barça needs.”
But Matthaus, who also skippered West Germany to World Cup success in 1990, told Sky: “He [Kane] has begun to win titles, something he did not achieve in England. I don’t see any reason why Harry Kane would leave the club or change his environment.
“He will renew. I’m sure of that. And Bayern will do everything to renew.”

Kane scores twice but then plays straight bat to questions on his future
Kane continues to flourish in the Bundesliga with Vincent Kompany’s side. Yesterday’s double in a 3-2 win against Eintracht Frankfurt helped Bayern extend their lead at the top of the table to eight points.
The 32-year-old Londoner has scored 90 goals in 86 Bundesliga games for Bayern since moving to the Allianz Arena from Tottenham in the summer of 2023.
“We don’t know if he would shine so much elsewhere, we don’t know if he would play as well as with Kompany,” added Matthaus.
Kane was asked about his future following yesterday’s game but played a straight bat, saying: “I haven’t heard anything about that. It’s my father and my brother who take care of those matters and I’m not sure if they know anything. But they haven’t told me anything.”
